Monarch Butterfly Head Shot on Liatris

The head of a monarch butterfly resting on garden phlox picture

Caption: A Monarch Butterfly (Danaus Plexippus) smiles for the camera while sunning himself on Garden Phlox (Plox paniculata).

Since most of my pictures feature colorful butterfly wings, I decided to take a few shots of the monarch's head straight on.

It's not as vibrant as the showy flappers , but it presents a beautiful contrast featuring white polka dots upon black.

Camera: Nikon D60 with 18-55mm Zoom lens.

Butterflies facts: Butterflies are able to see a wide range of colors. In fact, they have the broadest visual spectrum of all animals, including people.

They are even able to see Ultraviolet light....which you can't!
